GHG Protocol Releases Corporate Standard Survey Draft Summary Report

Corporate Standard Survey Draft Summary Report Now Available

Between November 2022 and March 2023, GHG Protocol invited interested stakeholders to provide feedback via four surveys on the Corporate Standard, the Scope 2 Guidance, the Scope 3 Standard, and market-based accounting approaches.

GHG Protocol received 375 responses to the Corporate Standard Survey. This Draft Summary Report provides a detailed overview of stakeholder feedback from the Corporate Standard Survey. The report builds on the “Topline Findings from Corporate Standard & Scope 3 Surveys Feedback” webinar, hosted by GHG Protocol in August 2023, by providing a more comprehensive and detailed summary of responses.Materials for the other three survey workstreams can be found here.

Review Period for Corporate Standard Survey Draft Summary Report open until Wednesday, January 24, 2024.

GHG Protocol encourages all interested stakeholders to read the Corporate Standard Survey Draft Summary Report. To ensure that GHG Protocol is accurately representing survey feedback, GHG Protocol is holding a review period to invite comments only from individuals/organizations who completed the Corporate Standard Survey who believe their feedback was either not adequately included or misrepresented.

If you, or your organization, completed the Corporate Standard Survey, we invite you to review the Draft Summary Report to ensure your feedback is represented accurately. To do so, please complete this form by Wednesday, January 24, 2024.

The GHG Protocol Secretariat will then review all responses to feedback submitted via this form during the review period to release a final version of the Corporate Standard Survey Summary Report.

Next Steps in Standards Update Process

The Corporate Standard Survey Summary Report will support the development of specific work plans and inform discussions around key revisions to the Corporate Standard and related GHG Protocol standards. In addition, the GHG Protocol Secretariat will continue to solicit new information and review relevant new research studies related to the Corporate Standard as they become available throughout the update process.

In addition to the survey responses, GHG Protocol received over 40 proposal submissions related to the Corporate Standard. All shared proposals can be viewed here. Along with the survey summary process, the GHG Protocol Secretariat will be meeting with organizations that submitted a Corporate Standard proposal as needed for further discussions of their proposals.

The next phase of stakeholder engagement will center on transparent evaluation of these proposals. The goals of this work are to support widespread understanding of the proposals and GHG Protocol accounting and reporting principles. The results of these sessions and the summary of survey responses will help inform the initial topics and deliberations for the forthcoming Technical Working Groups.

In November 2023, Greenhouse Gas Protocol launched a new governance structure, which includes a Steering Committee, an Independent Standards Board and multiple technical working groups. We are currently accepting applications for membership in our governing bodies. Applications are due January 15, 2024.More details about the different bodies and information on how to apply can be found here.

All information about the standards update process will be shared with subscribers of our newsletter via email. If you’d like to receive email updates, please subscribe to the GHG Protocol newsletter here.
