ANNOUNCEMENT: Revised Timeline for Suite of Corporate Standards Update

GHG Protocol is currently reviewing applications for the Steering Committee, Independent Standards Board and Technical Working Groups. GHG Protocol received over 1,650 applications and is working diligently to give due consideration to all applicants. GHG Protocol now anticipates that Technical Working Groups will be established towards the end of Q2 2024. Given this, GHG Protocol anticipates releasing draft standards/guidance for public consultation in 2025 and publishing final standards/guidance in the latter half of 2026. GHG Protocol recognizes the urgent need for updated standards and is dedicated to moving as swiftly as possible while maintaining acute attention to checks and balances in decision-making. 

Market-Based Approaches Survey Draft Summary Report

Between November 2022 and March 2023, GHG Protocol invited interested stakeholders to provide feedback via four surveys on the Corporate Standard, the Scope 2 Guidance, the Scope 3 Standard, and market-based approaches. GHG Protocol received over 340 responses to the survey on market-based approaches. The Market-based Accounting Approaches Survey Draft Summary Report provides a detailed overview of this stakeholder feedback. Now Available: Scope 2 Frequently Asked Questions 

GHG Protocol released a new resource for stakeholders seeking to implement GHG Protocol’s Scope 2 Guidance. The new Scope 2 Frequently Asked Questions resource addresses 14 common questions about accounting for corporate emissions from purchased energy. If you have questions that are not answered by the Scope 2 FAQ you can reach GHG Protocol’s technical support team via this form 

GHG Protocol at 2024 REC Market Meeting 

GHG Protocol’s Elliott Engelmann participated as a speaker at the 12th REC Market Meeting on the panel “Reviewing Reporting Requirements: What are the Latest Developments?” The panel session discussed the latest developments in GHG Protocol standards update process and the feedback received via the GHG Protocol’s stakeholder survey on the corporate suite of standards and guidance.  

GHG Protocol at NYSE Sustainability Leaders Summit 

The New York Stock Exchange’s annual Sustainability Leaders Summits are designed to bring together sustainability thought leaders that are helping solve problems on both global and local scale. GHG Protocol’s Michael Macrae participated in a fireside chat on the Future of Emissions Measurement, moderated by NYSE’s Head of ESG Advisory.
