Suite of Corporate Standards and Guidance: Quarter 1 2025 Technical Working Groups Update
GHG Protocol currently has five Technical Working Groups in process. Below is a high-level update about what each workstream has been working on between January and March 2025. You can view the materials from Technical Working Group meetings in GHG Protocol’s Standards Development and Governance Repository.
- Corporate Standard Technical Working Group discussed topics including comparability of GHG information (Subgroup 1), optionality in consolidation approaches (Subgroup 2), and details of a scope 3 reporting requirement in the Corporate Standard (Subgroup 3).
- Scope 2 Technical Working Group is in the process of advancing revisions to both the location-based and market-based methods. A newly formed subgroup is developing recommendations for the AMI TWG on the consequential quantification and reporting of GHG emission impacts from an organization's electricity sector actions.
- Scope 3 Technical Working Group has 3 subgroups whose discussions were focused on potential disaggregated reporting of scope 3 inventory, considerations of hot spot analysis and facilitated emissions, as well as classification of emissions in category 15 and their minimum boundaries.
- Actions and Market Instruments Technical Working Group is currently considering and refining proposals for a more comprehensive Corporate Accounting and Reporting Framework including the necessary approaches for addressing the impacts of actions and market instruments.
- Forest Carbon Accounting Technical Working Group is in the process of refining quantification proposals to account for and report anthropogenic CO2 emissions and removals in forest operations and forest product value chains.
