GHG Protocol has discontinued the prior version of its Built on GHG Protocol program.
However, GHG Protocol is exploring new formal pathways for stakeholders to demonstrate alignment with its standards. |
Why we are doing this:
There is a growing need for trusted ways to demonstrate alignment with GHG Protocol standards due to the following factors, among others:
- Regulatory scrutiny is rising, increasing the need for credible, consistent carbon accounting
- Carbon accounting is becoming more intricate as the landscape evolves
- More software and service providers are building around GHG Protocol
- Customers and auditors want trusted signals that solutions are GHG Protocol-aligned
What we are building:
An official pathway through which service providers (e.g., software solution providers, consultancies) can demonstrate that their services and tools align with the GHG Protocol standards, and receive the rights to formally make such a claim.
We plan to launch a pilot in H1 of 2027. If you are interested in finding out more or joining the pilot, please reach out to Keil Corey at [email protected].
We will also share our progress and provide updates as they become available. You can follow us on LinkedIn or subscribe to our newsletter to receive the latest updates from GHG Protocol.
Looking Back
The prior version of the Built on GHG Protocol review service was discontinued August 13, 2024 as part of strategic changes aimed at strengthening the institutional core of the organization and laying the groundwork for a period of growth and maturation.
In 2011, GHG Protocol established the Built on GHG Protocol review service to acknowledge 3rd party resources that were in conformance with GHG Protocol standards and guidance. During that time, 20 resources from various sectors and geographies were approved.
For a list of the resources that were previously approved, please refer to the links below:
