Land Sector and Removals Standard
The Land Sector and Removals Standard is currently being finalized for publication and will be released on January 30, 2026. The Standard relates to how companies account for and report GHG emissions and removals from land management, land use change, biogenic products, carbon dioxide removal technologies, and related activities in GHG inventories.
The Standard has been developed over the last five years through a rigorous, transparent and inclusive process, including final decisions through the GHG Protocol’s Independent Standards Board. A wide range of experts around the world — including representatives from companies, governments, academia, and civil society — provided valuable feedback shaping the standard through extensive consultation and pilot testing.
The Land Sector and Removals Standard builds on previous drafts and pilot testing materials accessible below.
An accompanying Guidance document will be published in Q2 2026 and will include guidance on implementing the requirements, calculation guidance, examples, and case studies.
