Introduction

As awareness about climate change increases and concerns grow, investors are demanding more transparency, and consumers are seeking greater clarity on their emissions. Companies are increasingly receiving requests from stakeholders to measure and disclose their corporate GHG inventories, including products and value chain. To serve this need, WRI is offering training on two GHG Protocol accounting and reporting standards, the Product Standard and the Corporate Value Chain(Scope 3) Standard. These trainings are being co-hosted with various partners, and will take place in Hong Kong (May 14 & 15), Beijing (May 17 & 18), and Shanghai (May 21 & 22). The courses will last for 2 days in Shanghai and Hong Kong and 1 day in Beijing.

The training courses are designed as a ‘how to’ guide for companies who want to measure the life cycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of the products they design, produce, sell, or use, as well as for companies who are striving to measure the greenhouse gas emissions of their operations and throughout their value chain (scope 3).

These trainings will benefit:

• Companies seeking a better understanding of the GHG inventory of products they design, manufacture, sell, purchase, or use can benefit from the course,
• Third party service providers that are interested in providing GHG Scope 3 and Product Accounting services, such as consultancies and assurance service providers, and
• Policy makers, researchers and nonprofit organizations that are interested in incorporating product GHG accounting into policy or program design.




Courses

Training #1: GHG Protocol Product Life Cycle Accounting and Reporting Standard

Trainer: Laura Draucker, Life Cycle Assessment Senior Associate, Product and Supply Chain Initiative; WRI’s Sustainability Manager

This course will provide companies a detailed understanding of product life-cycle GHG accounting and reporting principles that will enable them to complete a product inventory using the GHG Protocol Product Standard. The course will include case studies and training exercises to give an interactive and practical lesson in product GHG accounting and reporting.

Training #2: GHG Protocol Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Accounting and Reporting Standard

Trainer: Benedict Buckley, Research Analyst, GHG Protocol Product and Value Chain Initiative

This course will provide companies with a detailed understanding of Scope 3 accounting and reporting principles, including a review of corporate accounting, that will enable them to complete a corporate value chain GHG inventory. The course will include case studies and training exercises to give an interactive and practical lesson in Scope 3 GHG accounting and reporting.
