RELEASE: GHG Protocol Establishes Donor Council to Strengthen Engagement with Donors

WASHINGTON DC (June 26, 2025) – Greenhouse Gas Protocol is pleased to announce the formation of its new Donor Council, established to channel engagement with donors and support its long-term strategy in an inclusive and transparent manner.

The Donor Council serves as a formal mechanism for donors to engage and to provide non-binding recommendations on the strategic direction of GHG Protocol and the implementation of its strategy to the Steering Committee. The Donor Council will not have any role in or influence on GHG Protocol’s standards development and revision process, which is supported by the Technical Working Groups and overseen by the Independent Standards Board.

For more information about the Donor Council’s role and remit as well as for a list of its current members, please see GHG Protocol's governance webpage.

“This is an important milestone in our efforts to foster a transparent, inclusive and collaborative governance structure,” said Steering Committee Chair, Geraldine Matchett. “It strengthens our ability to engage donors meaningfully while maintaining the independence and integrity of our standards update process.”

“The Donor Council is a valuable bridge between the donor community and the Steering Committee,” said Steering Committee Vice-Chair, Ovais Sarmad. “Their strategic, high-level insights will help Greenhouse Gas Protocol to remain responsive to an evolving GHG accounting and reporting landscape.”
